The Cuillin

	Famous world-wide for its stunning climbing, Skye has long attracted visitors from far and wide to experience the exhilaration offered in the mighty Cuillin Mountains’ jagged peaks and ridges. There’s nothing to surpass the magic of the Cuillin and the ambience of their setting. These Mountains are our most Alpine and arguably the most challenging peaks in the UK. They have a unique atmosphere and offer unsurpassed sea vistas (weather permitting)!

	The Cuillin Ridge Traverse is probably the best mountaineering expedition in Britain. The ridge is normally tackled from south to north, starting from Gars-Bheinn and finishing on Sgurr nan Gillian. Highlights of the traverse could include: Views of the ridge & Loch Coruisk Climbing the Inaccessible Pinnacle The round of Coire Lagan, and a visit to the Cioch "The Tooth" on Am Bastier (Naismith's route) The NE Ridge of Sgurr nan Gillean BlaBhienn - Clach Glass traverse Several large and well deserved drinks at the Sligachan Hotel.

Munros The Munros are mountains in Scotland over 3,000 feet in height. The list of Munros are named after Sir Hugh Munro who first published such a list in 1891. Sadly he died before he was able to climb them all. The first person to climb all the Munros was the Rev. A. E. Robertson who completed this feat in 1901. On Sir Hugh's death the Scottish Mountaineering Club took over this responsibility and last revised the tables of Munros in 1997. At the present time there are 284 Munros ranging from Ben Lomond in the south to Ben Hope in the north and from Ben More on the Island of Mull to Mount Keen on the east coast. Persons climbing the Munros are referred to as Munro Baggers and those who have climbed all the Munros as Munroists. The Scottish Mountaineering Club keep a list of all the Munroists who have registered their completion and this can be viewed at www.smc.org.uk There are 12 Munros on Skye.
